Union Lodge No. 48 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, a fraternal association, was established in 1855 in Moore's Flat, Nevada County, California. The Lodge also seems to have had connections to the towns of North Bloomfield and Eureka South (now Graniteville), both also in Nevada County. North Bloomfield, settled in 1852, served as a supply base for the Malakoff Diggins, California's largest hydraulic mining operation.
